India, April 16 -- The Ministry of Coal will launch the 15th round of commercial coal mine auctions alongside a stakeholder consultation on April 17, 2026, in Mumbai. The event, themed "Atmanirbhar Bharat: Coal for Energy Security," will be attended by Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt as the chief guest.

The initiative underscores the government's continued focus on strengthening India's energy security and advancing the vision of self-reliance. Since the introduction of commercial coal mining in 2020 under Narendra Modi, the sector has seen improved domestic coal availability and reduced dependence on imports.
