India, Sept. 29 -- Coal India Ltd (CIL) and Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Ltd (HURL) have signed a non-binding MoU to explore the feasibility of producing urea using syngas generated through coal gasification at Sindri, Jharkhand.
The agreement was executed on September 29, 2026, and aims to assess the development of a coal gasification-based urea production facility.
The initiative comes amid the government's push to promote coal gasification and reduce dependence on imported natural gas and other feedstocks for fertiliser production.
