India, Aug. 3 -- India's Captive and Commercial coal mines maintained strong growth in July 2026, with coal production increasing 9.61% year-on-year to 14.78 million tonnes (MT).

Coal dispatches during the month stood at 17.49 MT, reflecting improved operational efficiency, higher mining productivity, and better utilisation of mining capacities across the sector.

The Ministry of Coal said the continued rise in domestic coal production is expected to reduce reliance on imports, strengthen energy security, conserve foreign exchange, and support the government's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
