India, Sept. 30 -- The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the implementation of an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) in Delhi at an estimated cost of Rs 1,789.52 crore, including taxes.
The project, to be implemented by Delhi Police, will cover 42 major traffic corridors and is scheduled to be rolled out in three phases over 24 months, followed by five years of operations and maintenance.
The technology-driven system will use real-time traffic monitoring, adaptive traffic signals, automated enforcement and integrated command-and-control centres to improve the utilisation of Delhi's existing road network.
