India, June 3 -- The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a two-year scheme with a total outlay of Rs 9,585 crore to accelerate the replacement of old, polluting trucks and buses in the Delhi-NCR region and improve air quality.

The scheme, to be funded through the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB), aims to incentivize owners of BS-IV and older commercial vehicles to replace them with cleaner BS-VI-compliant or electric vehicles. The initiative will be implemented jointly by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), and the participating states of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.
