India, June 13 -- Anthropic's most advanced Claude models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, are no longer available to users, following a recent US government directive that has pushed one of the most-watched AI launches of the year into a larger debate on national security, export controls and frontier AI governance.

The company said the US government had issued an export-control directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States. Anthropic said the directive also covered foreign national employees of the company. To comply, the company said it had to disable both models for all users.

By virtue of this directive, as of June 13, Fable 5 is not available even to paid users. That...
