AI is making copper strategic again. Is India ready this time?
India, Aug. 16 -- For much of the AI boom, the infrastructure conversation has revolved around two things - graphics processing units (GPUs) and electricity.
It may be time to add a third - copper.
AI may live on our screens, but somewhere behind every prompt is a physical building consuming electricity on an industrial scale. Inside are thousands of processors that need power. That power must travel through transformers, cables and thick metal conductors before it ever reaches a GPU ( a specialised chip with thousands of small processing units that work in parallel to rapidly handle calculations for graphics, video and AI workloads.)
Much of that journey depends on copper.
