India, Sept. 21 -- AI governance is moving from a policy-led exercise to an architectural requirement as enterprises deploy AI systems that can access data, interact with applications and take actions on behalf of users, according to Sumit Agarwal, VP Analyst at Gartner.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Gartner Data & Analytics Summit 2026 in Mumbai, Agarwal said the shift from generative AI to agentic AI is changing the nature and timing of enterprise risk. Unlike conventional AI models, which primarily generate an output for a human to act on, AI agents can execute tasks and make changes across enterprise systems.
