Pakistan, Sept. 21 -- Chinese President Xi Jinping is heading to Washington for a meeting with US President Donald Trump. The September 24 summit comes as China's global trade surplus approaches $1 trillion again. Trade relations are expected to remain central to discussions between the two leaders. Taiwan and other international issues could also feature during the meeting.

The leaders last met four months ago as both countries maintained a trade truce. Their latest meeting will focus partly on whether to extend that arrangement. Officials from both sides held preparatory discussions in New York on Sunday. Those talks covered trade in non-sensitive products and possible rules for artificial intelligence.
