Pakistan, June 30 -- The Venezuela earthquake has claimed more than 1,700 lives, five days after the devastating disaster struck the country. Officials say rescue teams are still searching through the rubble as thousands of people remain missing.
National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said on Monday that the death toll has risen to 1,719, while 5,034 people have been injured. He added that thousands of people are still unaccounted for following the powerful earthquake.
Rescue workers continue to carry out search operations in the affected areas. On Sunday, four more survivors, including two children, were pulled alive from the debris, bringing the total number of people rescued alive to 33.
