Pakistan, Aug. 9 -- The United States is working to establish a safe shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, Vice President JD Vance said Saturday. The plan aims to protect commercial vessels while Washington continues pressure on Iran.
Vance said Iran had assured Washington that commercial ships would not be targeted while using the strategic waterway. However, he said the United States does not fully trust those assurances.

According to Vance, Iran has indicated it will allow the maximum possible volume of oil to pass through the strait. Some Iranian officials had discussed imposing tolls on vessels using the waterway.
