Pakistan, Aug. 12 -- Defence Minister Khawaja Asif says recent developments suggest the United States and Iran may be moving closer to a peace agreement or broader diplomatic arrangement.

Speaking in Islamabad, Asif said signals from the past two or three days indicated that Washington and Tehran were approaching "some sort of arrangement". However, he did not reveal details of the possible deal.

The comments come as negotiations remain focused partly on the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important waterway for global energy and shipping. Despite tough positions from both sides, Asif said the situation was again shifting toward peace.
