Pakistan, March 12 -- The United Nations (UN) Security Council has adopted a resolution calling on Iran to immediately stop attacks against Gulf countries, amid growing regional tensions and security concerns.
The resolution, drafted on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), received a record 135 co-sponsors, surpassing the previous high of 134 for Resolution 2177 adopted in 2014 during the Ebola crisis. It was passed with 13 votes in favour, while China and Russia abstained.
The text strongly condemns attacks allegedly carried out by Iran against Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, describing them as a breach of international law and a serious threat to global peace and security.
