Pakistan, Sept. 28 -- Authorities halte an overnight attempt to remove part of a historic mosque in Ujjain after local residents gathered there. Police maintained a heavy presence around the site.

Bulldozers arrived at the mosque as officials prepared to begin the planned demolition. However, residents strongly opposed the move and gathered inside and outside the building.

Authorities marked parts of the mosque for removal under a road widening project. The project aims to improve roads before the 2028 Simhastha Kumbh religious festival.
