Pakistan, Sept. 2 -- Iran's Revolutionary Guards said two oil tankers caught fire after hitting mines in the Strait of Hormuz. The incident occurred while the vessels were travelling outside an Iranian-designated route.
The Guards said the tankers entered what they described as an illegal route through the strait. They claimed the vessels took that route after receiving urging from the US military.
According to the Iranian statement, both tankers struck mines while travelling through the waterway. The explosions caused the vessels to catch fire. The Guards said the tankers remained on fire at the time of their statement.
