NEW YORK, Sept. 24 -- US President Donald Trump met Venezuela's interim President Delcy Rodriguez during a reception linked to the UN General Assembly. It was their first meeting since Nicolas Maduro's removal.

The meeting took place behind closed doors on Tuesday, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also attending. Rodriguez described the meeting as historic and said Venezuela wanted dialogue with Washington.

Meanwhile, opposition leader Maria Corina Machado was not included in the US-backed transition talks. Her team said she attempted three times to return to Venezuela within about 24 hours.
