Pakistan, Oct. 11 -- Few foreign-policy issues evoke stronger emotions in Pakistan than Israel.

For nearly eight decades, Pakistan has maintained that recognition of Israel is linked to a just settlement of the Palestinian issue and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (East Jerusalem) as its capital. That remains Pakistan's official position.

This article is not an argument for changing that policy, still less an advocacy of Pakistan joining the Abraham Accords. It is an attempt to explore whether a policy shaped in one geopolitical era should, from time to time, be examined against the realities of another.
