Pakistan, Sept. 29 -- The death toll from severe rains and flooding in Thailand has risen to 23, authorities said Tuesday. Floodwaters have started receding in Bangkok, but disruption continues across the capital. The government has approved a major aid package as authorities work to manage the damage.

Bangkok received around 320mm of rain within three days last week. The amount nearly matched the rainfall the low-lying city normally receives throughout September. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said floodwater should clear from major roads within two days.
