Pakistan, Sept. 29 -- Severe flooding has hit Thailand after heavy rains, submerging parts of Bangkok and forcing thousands of residents into temporary shelters. At least eight people have died across the country, while more than 580,000 homes have been affected. Officials also fear economic losses could exceed $320 million.

Bangkok received about 320 millimetres of rain over two to three days last week. That amount nearly matched the city's normal rainfall for the entire month of September. As a result, several roads and residential areas remained underwater, while residents struggled with disrupted drainage systems and food shortages.
