Pakistan, Sept. 28 -- The gap between petrol's actual cost and its retail price has widened further. Official documents show taxes, levies and margins account for a major part of the price.
According to the documents, one litre of petrol costs Rs254.96 before additional charges. However, the current retail price has been set at Rs391.30 per litre.
This means consumers pay Rs136.34 more than the petrol's actual cost per litre. The documents include Rs134.44 in taxes, levies and industry margins, along with an exchange adjustment.
An Rs80 petroleum levy applies to every litre of petrol under the current pricing structure. Consumers also pay a Rs5 climate support levy and Rs23.68 in customs duty per litre.
