Pakistan, May 26 -- Water and Power Development Authority has revealed that Tarbela Dam supplied 586 billion units of low-cost electricity and released more than 419 million acre-feet of water for irrigation during the last 50 years. According to Wapda, the mega hydropower project generated economic benefits worth nearly $460 billion for Pakistan since beginning operations in 1974. Officials described the dam as one of the country's most important national infrastructure projects supporting energy production, agriculture, and economic development simultaneously.
