Pakistan, Sept. 28 -- A suspected street criminal was shot and injured before being arrested in a police encounter occurring near Cantonment graveyard. The SHO of Makki Shah police station, Inspector Haq Nawaz Baloch, informed here on Sunday that the police were carrying out snap checks when they spotted a suspect and signalled him to stop for checking, but he sped away. He added that the police tried to stop him and an exchange of fire followed, in which the suspect Shakeel Chandio sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. Chandio was later shifted to Liaquat University Hospital for surgery for his bullet injury. The SHO claimed that they recovered an unlicensed pistol from his possession.
