Pakistan, Aug. 2 -- South Korea recorded its highest temperature since weather records began more than a century ago, as the southeastern city of Yangsan reached 42.5degC on Sunday. The historic reading marked another milestone in the country's severe summer heatwave, which has pushed temperatures above normal levels across many regions. Authorities have continued issuing warnings as extreme heat affects daily life and public health.

Yangsan remained the centre of the ongoing heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 40degC for a fifth consecutive day.
