Pakistan, Aug. 11 -- A total solar eclipse will cross parts of the world on Wednesday, August 12, giving millions of skywatchers an opportunity to witness one of nature's most striking events.

The Moon's shadow will pass across Greenland, Iceland, northern Spain and the Balearic Islands, creating periods of complete darkness in areas directly along the eclipse path.

For Europe, the event carries special importance because it will mark the continent's first experience of complete solar-eclipse darkness since 1999. Iceland and Spain will offer some of the strongest viewing opportunities.

Reykjavik will experience almost complete totality between 1:48 and 1:49 p.m., while Valencia will reach 100% coverage around 2:32 to 2:33 p.m. Barcelon...
