Pakistan, Aug. 29 -- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the suspension of eight officials over the PIMS nursery fire. The August 26 blaze killed newborns and exposed serious safety and administrative failures. The decision follows an interim inquiry report submitted to the prime minister on August 29.

The inquiry committee recommended action against officials responsible for clinical, administrative and security duties. The suspended officials include PIMS Executive Director Professor Dr Imran Sikandar and several MCH officials. The list also includes a CDA emergency services official and an assistant security director. The prime minister ordered authorities to start criminal proceedings against those responsible.
