Pakistan, Sept. 25 -- Russian and Iranian foreign ministers have agreed that diplomacy remains the way forward in the Iran conflict. The discussion focused on rising regional tensions linked to the ongoing US-Israeli war against Iran.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi in New York on Thursday. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. Russia's Foreign Ministry said regional and international issues were discussed.

According to Moscow, both sides stressed that diplomacy was the only option. The ministry described the crisis as resulting from actions by the United States and Israel. It said there was no alternative to a diplomatic settlement.
