Pakistan, Aug. 27 -- Qatar's prime minister will travel to Tehran on Thursday to revive mediation efforts between Iran and the United States. The visit comes as tensions remain over the Strait of Hormuz and stalled diplomatic efforts between the two sides. Qatar hopes renewed contacts can help prevent further escalation.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani will meet Iranian officials during the visit. Iran's Foreign Ministry said he would discuss Qatar's mediation and wider regional developments. Qatar also wants talks to reduce tensions and support renewed dialogue.
