Pakistan, June 1 -- The Punjab cabinet has approved the Punjab Electricity Duty Rules 2026, introducing a new regulatory framework for private power generation systems. The new rules replace the Electricity Duty Rules of 2012 and aim to bring large generators and solar installations into a formal taxation and monitoring structure.

Officials said the policy targets private power systems above 500 KVA, including industrial generators and commercial solar units. As a result, the government seeks to improve documentation and increase oversight of energy generation outside the public grid system.
