Pakistan, Oct. 7 -- The electricity shortfall has exceeded 4,000 megawatts due to the shutdown of several power plants and a decline in hydropower generation. As a result, consumers in both urban and rural areas are experiencing three to four hours of load-shedding.

The situation is reportedly more serious in areas served by the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO). According to sources, LESCO's power shortfall has exceeded 1,000MW, while recent reports indicate that it has reached as high as 1,500MW. Some areas are reportedly experiencing power outages of nearly one hour after every hour of electricity supply.
