Pakistan, Aug. 17 -- Pakistan's UN envoy Asim Iftikhar Ahmad has accused the Afghan Taliban government of supporting militant groups and allowing Afghanistan to become a base for attacks against Pakistan. He said militant violence has sharply increased, creating serious security concerns for Pakistan and the wider region.
Iftikhar said more than 5,200 terrorism-related incidents occurred in Pakistan during 2025, causing over 1,300 deaths, while more than 3,000 attacks in the first half of 2026 killed over 830 people. However, he clarified that these figures cover broader terrorism-related incidents, while the Global Terrorism Index recorded 1,045 terrorist incidents and 1,139 related deaths in Pakistan during 2025.
