Pakistan, Aug. 14 -- Pakistan is celebrating its 79th Independence Day as celebrations began across the country at midnight. Pakistan 79th Independence Day festivities have filled cities, streets and neighborhoods with national flags, while government and private buildings, homes and markets have been decorated in green and white.

As the clock struck midnight, Independence Day celebrations officially began across Pakistan. Streets and neighborhoods in cities across the country were illuminated and decorated with the national flag.

Major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta and Multan witnessed fireworks and illuminations as people gathered to celebrate the occasion.
