Pakistan, Sept. 3 -- New York City officials have announced a one-year ban on student use of artificial intelligence in public elementary and middle schools. The policy covers about 600,000 students through eighth grade across the city's public school system. Officials say the move aims to protect human learning and classroom interaction.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani said schools would stop using around 40 educational AI tools in classrooms during the moratorium. He stressed that children need teachers, classmates and direct human interaction to develop important skills. Mamdani also said students should learn to handle difficult problems without relying on artificial intelligence.
