KATHMANDU, Sept. 1 -- The death toll from devastating floods along the Nepal-China border has crossed 1,000. Nepal reported 987 deaths, while China confirmed 16 deaths in Tibet. The disaster has also left more than 4,400 people missing across both countries. Rescue teams continued operations for a seventh day on Tuesday. Authorities warned that the final toll could rise further.

In Nepal, the number of missing people fell to 3,916 as rescuers recovered more bodies. The missing include 583 foreigners from more than 30 nationalities.
