Pakistan, Aug. 23 -- Moderate quake shook eastern Japan early Sunday, injuring at least 37 people across five prefectures, while authorities confirmed there was no tsunami threat. The tremor also affected Tokyo and surrounding areas, catching many residents off guard while sleeping.

The Japan Meteorological recorded the earthquake at a preliminary magnitude of 5.9, with its epicenter in southern Ibaraki prefecture. The quake struck at a depth of 70 kilometers, while the US Geological Survey measured it at magnitude 5.8.
