Pakistan, July 16 -- Italy's lower house of parliament approved a controversial electoral reform plan on Thursday, setting the stage for changes ahead of the 2027 general election. The move has intensified political debate, with opponents accusing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's government of seeking electoral advantage.

The reform, proposed by the ruling right-wing coalition, introduces a fully proportional voting system while guaranteeing a majority to any bloc securing more than 42% of the vote. The winning coalition would receive an additional 70 seats in the lower house and 35 seats in the Senate.
