Pakistan, Sept. 27 -- British police declared a major incident near RAF Fairford after arresting several men over suspected explosives offences. Authorities increased security around the southwest England air base, which US air forces use. Police also evacuated several properties in the nearby Whelford area.

Gloucestershire Police said officers arrested several men under the Explosives Act. The Army's specialist explosive ordnance disposal team then examined several vehicles. Armed police also blocked access to the base's main entrance as the operation continued.
