Pakistan, Sept. 27 -- Major incident declared near RAF Fairford in southwest England after British police arrested several men over suspected explosives offences. Authorities evacuated several properties in the nearby Whelford area and increased security around the air base. The UK facility is used by US air forces for military operations.

Gloucestershire Police said the arrests were made under the Explosives Act. The Army's specialist explosive ordnance disposal team was also examining several vehicles. Armed police blocked access to the base's main entrance as emergency services gathered in the surrounding area.
