Pakistan, Aug. 3 -- A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck eastern Egypt early Monday, shaking several parts of the country. The tremor prompted authorities to activate nationwide emergency response plans. However, officials reported no immediate casualties or major damage. The earthquake was widely felt and woke many residents during the early morning hours.

According to Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, the earthquake struck around 3:00 a.m. local time.
