LONDON, Aug. 31 -- London graffiti artist Michael Purdy, known as Helch, has died at the age of 34. Friends and fellow artists have paid tribute to him following his sudden death. His distinctive lettering became a familiar sight across London. Tributes appeared online under the phrase "Rest in Paint" after news of his death emerged.

Helch gained major attention in 2019 after painting his name in huge white letters near Windsor Castle. The graffiti covered a railway viaduct and stood around 60 feet high. Its location attracted strong criticism because it affected views of the royal residence. Reports at the time said Queen Elizabeth II was unhappy about the artwork.
