Pakistan, Sept. 4 -- Lahore High Court (LHC) Judge Muhammad Raheel Kamran Sheikh on Thursday resigned as a judge, saying he wanted to pursue broader engagement with legal scholarship, policy research and comparative judicial practice.

In his resignation letter addressed to the president on September 3, Justice Muhammad Raheel Kamran Sheikh said he was tendering his resignation "from the office of Judge of the Lahore High Court, with immediate effect".

A copy of the resignation was also sent to the LHC registrar.

"It has been an honour and a privilege to have served in this office," he said. He said he had contributed to "the administration of justice" in accordance with his "oath and conscience".
