Pakistan, Sept. 24 -- The Kremlin said Wednesday that it was considering an invitation for Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the upcoming G20 summit in the United States. Washington confirmed that it had formally invited Putin to the December gathering in Miami.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow was grateful for the invitation. He said Russian officials would determine their position through diplomatic channels. Peskov did not say whether Putin would attend the summit in person or participate virtually.
