KOLKATA, Aug. 19 -- A hotel fire in Kolkata killed nine people, including a child, Indian authorities said. At least six other people suffered injuries in the incident.

The fire broke out at a hotel in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. Authorities said several Bangladeshi nationals were among those who died. They had reportedly travelled to Kolkata for medical treatment.

According to local police, the fire started at around 2:50am local time. Flames broke out on the second floor of the hotel building. Firefighters brought the blaze under control within about an hour.
