Pakistan, Nov. 8 -- Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has supported creating more provinces in Pakistan, saying the country could consider establishing as many as 12. He stressed that any new administrative units should reflect governance needs rather than ethnic, linguistic or political interests. Asif shared his views during an interview with Geo News in Sialkot on Sunday.

The minister said discussions about creating new provinces had continued for around two months. He argued that Pakistan's growing population required smaller administrative units to improve governance and public services. According to Asif, decentralising authority could help government institutions respond more effectively to local needs.
