Pakistan, Aug. 19 -- Israel struck Syria's Abu Duhur air base on Wednesday, saying it aimed to prevent a planned Turkish military deployment. Eight strikes reportedly hit the runway at the base in Idlib province, damaging the facility but causing no casualties.

Israel said Syria had come close to violating an agreed security status quo by allowing Turkish forces to deploy there. The Israeli prime minister's office said Israel had repeatedly warned Syria against permitting such a deployment.
