Pakistan, June 28 -- The Indus Waters Treaty has regained global attention after India placed the agreement in abeyance in April 2025 following the Pahalgam attack. The move has raised concerns about the future of one of the world's longest-standing water-sharing agreements and highlighted how disputes over shared rivers can affect regional stability and international security.
Signed in September 1960 with the World Bank acting as the broker, the treaty has survived three wars and decades of political tensions between India and Pakistan.
