Pakistan, Sept. 17 -- India has warned that new US tariffs targeting Russian oil buyers could strain bilateral relations. New Delhi also said it would protect the country's energy security. The warning followed approval of a US sanctions and tariff bill. The legislation could raise tariffs on countries buying Russian energy.

The US House of Representatives approved the bill earlier Thursday. The measure authorises President Donald Trump to impose tariffs reaching 100%. India and China could face the additional tariffs under the legislation. Trump must sign the bill before it becomes law.
