Pakistan, Aug. 1 -- Pakistan has requested a $10 billion Exchange Stabilisation Support Facility from the United States (US) Treasury, seeking additional financial support to strengthen foreign exchange reserves, stabilise the rupee and ease external financing pressures.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb made the request during his visit to Washington in July, proposing a facility with a maturity period of up to five years. If approved, the arrangement would be backed by the US Treasury's Exchange Stabilisation Fund (ESF), a financial mechanism used to assist countries facing monetary and liquidity challenges.
