Authorities are introducing measures to help residents cope with the extreme weather. Millions of people across the country could be affected as temperatures continue to rise.

According to Meteo-France, the heatwave will gradually spread across the country during the coming days. Temperatures are expected to reach between 36C and 37C in several areas on Wednesday before peaking over the weekend. The hottest conditions are forecast for Sunday, when France celebrates the annual nationwide music festival, La Fete de la Musique.
