Pakistan, May 4 -- A suspected hantavirus outbreak aboard the expedition vessel MV Hondius has resulted in three deaths and three additional illnesses, raising serious global health concerns. Authorities confirmed that the ship, operated by Oceanwide Expeditions, was sailing near Cape Verde when the medical emergency unfolded among passengers during the voyage.
The cruise began in Argentina around three weeks earlier and carried nearly 150 passengers on a polar expedition route that included stops in Antarctica. However, as the journey progressed, several passengers developed symptoms consistent with hantavirus infection, prompting urgent onboard medical responses and international coordination efforts to manage the situation.
