Pakistan, Aug. 31 -- The Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague has ordered India to comply with the Indus Waters Treaty. The court said India must limit work on a hydroelectric project in Kashmir. The ruling also confirmed that the water-sharing agreement with Pakistan remains legally effective. The decision marks a significant development in the long-running dispute over shared rivers.

In its ruling on Monday, the tribunal said India had no legal basis to suspend the treaty. It also rejected any claim that the agreement had stopped operating between both countries. The court stressed that the Indus Waters Treaty remains fully applicable. Both countries must therefore continue observing their commitments under the agreement.
